Organism of the Day

A Regular Mountain Lake Natural History Essay Series

Hazel Galloway

The Organism of the Day natural history display appears three times a week in the Lewis Hall foyer during the summer months.  Residents and station visitors enjoy interesting organisms found at or near Mountain Lake.  The tradition was started by then Station Director Henry Wilbur in the 1990s, and in 2010 Wilbur passed the responsibility for Organism of the Day to life-long station resident Hazel Galloway. Many thanks to Henry Wilbur, Mary Jane Epps, and Zack Murrell, who have lent some of their immense expertise to essays on organisms which fall into their fields! Organisms are always collected and released with as little harm done as possible.
