Group and Meeting Use

Located at the top of Salt Pond Mountain in Giles County, VA, the Station is surrounded by thousands of acres of forestland. Its historic meeting spaces are equipped with modern technology, offering users the unique opportunity to have a productive, memorable experience at a field station with a long, rich history of biological research. The Station is an ideal venue for visiting classes and small conferences/retreats with science- or nature-based themes.

Several meeting rooms with projection equipment are available, including two small classrooms, an auditorium, a computer lab, and a library. Accommodations are rustic. They include variety of historic, cabin-like dorms and cottages, as well as a few more modern (late 1900s) dorm rooms and suites. The Station can help arrange catered meals in the dining hall for large groups. Smaller groups (<25) can prepare their own meals in a self-serve, shared kitchen. Recreational opportunities include a pond, sand volleyball court, fire pit, and hiking trails.

Please contact us for additional information on our facilities, seasonal availability, and fees, and to discuss whether the Station can meet your program's needs. We would be happy to arrange a visit to show you around in person. If you decide you would like to pursue the use of our facilities for your group, we will ask you to submit a Station Use Request.
